Backlinks for Travel Sites That Earn Their Place in Search

For travel blogs, tour operators, hotels and destination guides competing with booking giants and big publishers. We place links on travel outlets with real readers, pointed at the pages that deserve to rank.

“Travel links come from people who write about places for readers who are about to go there.”

No obligation. Tell us what you sell and where, and a person replies.

  • Travel outlets only. Links come from travel writers, destination publishers and trip blogs whose readers are planning a journey. General sites that cover everything do not make the list.
  • Aimed at pages worth ranking. Destination guides, itineraries and original photography earn links that a booking page never will on its own.
  • A profile that holds up. One that holds through Google's updates and competitors' attacks, season after season.

Start here.

Travel is one of the most crowded corners of search. The best way to build "backlinks for Travel Sites, but better yet, your travel site" is to contact us directly, because the links that move a travel site are rarely the ones sold in bulk. They come from people who write about places for readers who are about to go there.

Travel results reward first-hand experience, and links are how engines find it

Type almost any destination into Google and you meet the same wall: booking platforms, review giants, a handful of national publishers, and an AI Overview that has already planned a three day trip. An independent travel site, a regional tour company or a boutique hotel has to give a search engine a reason to look past all of that.

Content is part of that reason. Google's guidance on helpful content keeps returning to first-hand experience: the writer who has actually walked the route, eaten at the place and taken the photographs. But if nobody links to a great guide, nobody has vouched for it yet. Backlinks still matter no matter the date, because they are how a search engine learns that other travel writers think your page is worth sending readers to.

They are not the only factor, since speed, structure and genuinely useful pages count as well. Yet without some really good links a travel site will sit on page four, behind brands that have collected citations for years. The same is true of AI search: when ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Mode builds an itinerary, the sources it leans on are the ones the rest of the travel web already points to.

Who links in travel, outlet by outlet

Plenty of travel sites will publish a link, and many of those links are worth little. The travel niche has more open "write for us" blogs than almost any other, and many of them exist only to sell placements. The table below compares the ones that are real.

Outlet type What it links to Why it passes value
Independent travel blogs with loyal readers Guides, itineraries, gear and route advice Real readers, topical history, comments and shares
Regional news and city guides Local operators, events, new openings Geographic relevance and editorial standards
Tourism boards and destination organisations Member businesses, partner listings, visitor resources Official, trusted and tied to a place
Travel magazines and features desks Expert sources, original data, standout photography Editorial links that are hard to buy and easy for engines to trust
Niche communities (hiking, diving, rail, cruising) Specialist guides and practical tools Tight topical match and engaged audiences
Partner businesses (hotels, guides, transport) Each other, through recommended partner pages Real commercial relationships in the same place

Get Found works with niche based blog owners and outlets on that list that get real traffic. We check each one before it touches your profile: does it publish on travel consistently, do people read it, and is the link sitting in an article rather than a page of paid listings.

The pages on a travel site that earn links on their own

Link building works best when it points at something a writer would want to cite. On travel sites, that is almost never the booking page. These are the formats that attract links and keep them:

  • Destination guides built from experience. Neighbourhood by neighbourhood, with your own photographs and opinions a brochure would not print.
  • Itineraries with real logistics. Day plans that account for transport times, opening days and the order that actually works on foot.
  • Practical reference pages. Entry requirements, seasonal weather, transport passes and packing lists, kept current and dated so other writers can cite them.
  • Maps and route files. Hiking routes, cycling loops and walking tours people can download and use.
  • Original photography. Images other sites want to use, with a credit line that becomes a link.

Once those pages hold links, internal links carry the strength to your tours, rooms and packages. That is how an operator's sales pages rank without ever being pitched to an editor.

Seasonality changes the calendar

Travel demand rises and falls, and so does the moment to build links. Links to a ski guide that arrive in spring help next winter. We plan placements ahead of each peak so that the pages are ranking when people start searching, not after they have booked elsewhere.

Anchor text that reads like a place, not a keyword

In travel, natural anchor text is varied by nature. Writers link with a destination name, a trip type, your brand, the headline of your guide, or a phrase like "this route". A profile where every anchor says the same commercial phrase is the fingerprint of bought links, and engines have long treated it that way.

  • Branded and headline anchors make up most of a healthy travel profile.
  • Place and trip anchors such as a region plus "walking tour" sit naturally inside editorial copy.
  • Exact match commercial phrases are used rarely, and only where a writer would say them anyway.
  • Image links and credits count too, and they are common on travel sites with strong photography.

Relevance matters as much as wording. A link to a Lisbon food walk from a Portuguese food blog makes sense. The same link from a car insurance article does not, however strong that site looks.

Ask us

ask for an anchor review of your current links, and we will flag any phrase that is repeated often enough to look engineered.

Where travel link building goes wrong

Travel attracts link sellers because travel sites are easy to start and easy to fill. The common mistakes are predictable.

Buying from open marketplaces. Blogs that list a price for a "travel guest post" sell the same slot to casinos, crypto and payday lenders. Your link sits beside theirs, and search engines notice the neighbourhood.

Ignoring disclosure. Hosted stays, press trips and paid partnerships should be disclosed, and the links marked sponsored or nofollow. Hiding that relationship turns a legitimate partnership into a paid link.

Expired travel domains. Old travel blogs bought and stuffed with outbound links are a known pattern, and Google's spam policies name expired domain abuse directly.

Chasing raw authority. A high score on a site that never covers travel is worth less than a modest score on a site travellers read every week. We turn down spammy sites and sites unrelated to travel, whatever their numbers say.

How we build a travel link profile with you

Every travel engagement starts with your current profile and the competitors who outrank you. From that we pick the pages worth promoting and the outlets that fit your destinations, and we time the work to your seasons. Writers in our large network of authors and outlets then produce articles that their readers want, with your page cited where it genuinely helps.

Travel also overlaps with other niches we cover. Food tours lean on the outlets on our food site backlink page. Photographers who sell travel prints should read how we build links for photography sites. Lifestyle publishers with travel sections are covered on our lifestyle backlinks page. If your guests come from abroad, links in their language matter, and pages such as our Japanese backlinks service explain why a translated page needs local links behind it.

For the bigger picture, our backlink building services hub explains the whole category, our backlink company page covers how we match a strategy to your budget, and the niche and language backlinks building service lists every market we work in. When you are ready, contact Get Found with your site and your destinations, and we will tell you plainly what we would build first.

How many of your inbound links come from sites that actually cover travel?Relevance is the first thing a search engine reads in a link, and a travel site linked mostly from unrelated pages looks bought.— / 100

Do your anchors read like places and trip types, or like one repeated keyword?Natural travel anchors vary by destination, season and brand; a wall of identical phrases is a pattern engines discount.— / 100
How many of your links sit on pages labelled sponsored, guest post or write for us?Open link marketplaces in travel are easy to spot, and a profile built on them carries risk with every update.— / 100
Is your site cited when an AI answer plans a trip to your destination?AI search leans on sources other sites already trust, so citations follow the same signals links do.— / 100
Are your links spread across the seasons you sell, or bunched into one month?Travel demand is seasonal, and links that arrive before each peak help the right pages rank in time.— / 100

The questions that come up every time.

Do travel sites still need backlinks now that AI answers plan whole trips?

Yes. An AI answer that recommends a hotel area or an itinerary is drawing on pages the engines already trust, and links from other travel publishers are one of the clearest ways that trust is formed. Backlinks are not the only factor, since helpful first-hand content and a fast site matter too, but a travel site with no links from its own world is rarely the one that gets cited or ranked.

Are guest posts on travel blogs still worth doing?

Some are and many are not. A guest article on a travel blog with its own readers, written by someone who has been to the place, is a real piece of publishing. A post on a site whose every page says write for us, with no comments, no social following and articles on every topic, is a link farm with a travel theme. We only work with the first kind.

Should a tour operator build links to its booking pages?

Mostly not directly. Booking and tour pages rarely earn links because nobody cites a checkout. The better approach is to build links to the guides, maps and itineraries on your site, then pass that strength to the tour pages through internal links. That way the pages that sell still rank, and the profile looks like a publisher's rather than a shop's.

How do press trips and hosted stays affect links?

A writer who was hosted by you should disclose it, and the link in that article should carry a sponsored or nofollow attribute under Google's rules. Those links still bring readers and brand searches, which have their own value. What you should not do is pay for a stay in exchange for a followed keyword link, because that is a paid link with extra steps.

Can you build links for a travel site in another language?

Yes. A destination site aimed at visitors from Japan, Brazil or France needs links from outlets those readers use, written natively in their language. A translated guide with only English links behind it rarely ranks in the local results. We have a page for each language and region that sets out how links are built there.
