Ecommerce AI SEO: Get Your Brand Into the AI Version of Search
For online brands that rank on Google yet go unmentioned when a shopper asks an AI assistant what to buy. We make your brand, products and reviews clear, consistent and citable for the AI answers that now sit above the links.
No obligation. Tell us what you sell and where, and a person replies.
- Every engine has an AI answer now. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Claude all answer product questions directly.
- Built on 20+ years of store SEO. For over 20 years we have been optimizing ecommerce websites and brand owners for page 1 rankings, and AI answers start from that same foundation.
- No invented numbers. We track where your brand appears in AI answers with a fixed set of buyer questions, and we report what we see.
Score this for my business
01Ecommerce Marketing
Start here.
Today every AI assistant has an "AI Version of Search", and every search engine has one as well. A shopper can ask which product to buy and get an answer with three brands in it, and never see a results page. If your brand is not one of the three, your page 1 ranking underneath is worth less than it used to be. This page explains how we optimize a brand and its business for those answers.

Each AI, and even each search engine, now has an "AI Version of Search"
The answers come from several places, and each one reads the web a little differently. These are the platforms we optimize for, described in plain terms.
| Platform | Where your buyer meets it | What it draws on |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews | A summary at the top of ordinary Google results | Google's own search index, with links to the pages it used |
| Google AI Mode | A separate conversational mode inside Google Search | The same index, searched many times over for one question |
| ChatGPT search | Answers and product results inside ChatGPT | Pages fetched by OpenAI's search crawler, search partners and merchant feeds |
| Perplexity | An answer engine that numbers its sources | Its own crawler and live web search |
| Microsoft Copilot | Inside Bing, Edge and Windows | Bing's index and Microsoft's shopping data |
| Gemini | Google's assistant, in its own app and across Google products | Google Search and Google's shopping data |
| Claude | Anthropic's assistant, which can search the web | Live web search, with the pages it cites |
On every one of these platforms, the answer is assembled from pages the system can reach, understand and trust, and the brands it names are the ones those pages name. Classic rankings still matter, because most of these systems start with search results, which is why this work sits on top of our ecommerce SEO service rather than replacing it.
The commercial side is moving fast too. ChatGPT now shows product results with images, prices and links to the merchants selling them, and OpenAI has opened a way for merchants to supply product feeds. Google's AI Mode pulls from the same shopping data as Google Shopping. Your product data now feeds the answer as well as the listing.
pick the one question you most want to win, like the best product of your type for a particular buyer, and we will run it across these platforms with you.

The answer engines need to know exactly who you are
An AI system recommends entities: a brand, a product, a company it can identify with confidence. If your brand name is spelled three ways, your About page is thin and your company details differ between your site, your marketplace listings and your social profiles, the system is less sure you are one thing, and less likely to name you.
- One name, everywhere. The same brand name, spelling and description on the store, the marketplaces, social profiles and directories.
- A real About page. Who founded the brand, what it makes, where it ships from, and why it exists, written for people and readable by machines.
- Organization markup. Structured data that names the brand, its logo, its official profiles and its contact details, so engines can tie them together.
- Product names that are consistent. The same product name and model on your site, your feeds and every marketplace, rather than a different title for each channel.
- Clear category language. Say plainly what kind of product you sell, in the words buyers use, so the system knows which questions you answer.
At this stage AI SEO overlaps with positioning. A brand with a clear, single story is easier to describe, and our brand growth strategy work is often where that story gets settled before we write a word of markup.
search your own brand in two or three assistants. If the descriptions disagree with each other or with you, that is the gap we close first.

Your product data is the answer, so make it complete
When a shopper asks for a product with particular features at a particular price, the answer engine has to match the question to products it knows about. It can only match on the data you have given it. A product with no material, no size, no identifier and no availability is invisible to that question.
- Complete product schema. Name, brand, GTIN or MPN, price, currency, availability, shipping and returns on every product page.
- Merchant feeds. Google Merchant Center and Microsoft Merchant Center kept complete and in step with the site, and other assistants' merchant programmes where they fit your business.
- Attributes buyers ask about. Material, size, fit, compatibility, ingredients, care, what is in the box. If a buyer would ask it, the data should answer it.
- One truth across channels. The price, stock and description on your site, your feeds and your marketplace listings should agree. Conflicting data is a reason for a system to trust none of it.
We audit the product templates and the feeds together, because errors usually live in the gap between them. The same clean data helps your Google Shopping and paid campaigns, which read the same feed.
send us one product URL and we will show you every attribute an answer engine would want that the page and the feed do not provide.
05Ecommerce Marketing
Be cited by the sources the answers are built from
Look at the sources an AI answer cites for your category and you will see the same kinds of sites again and again: review sites, comparison articles, forums and discussion threads, video reviews, trade publications and the brands' own pages. To be recommended, you need to be present where the answer is assembled.
- Find the sources first. We run your buyer questions and record which sites each platform cites, so the outreach goes to the sites each platform actually uses.
- Earn mentions on them. Product reviews, inclusion in comparison articles, expert quotes and genuine participation in the communities where your buyers talk.
- News and announcements. A product launch or a company milestone, properly distributed, puts your brand name on pages the engines crawl. Our low cost press release distribution exists for exactly that.
- Unlinked mentions count. An AI system reads a brand name in text whether or not it is linked, so mentions matter in their own right.
What the answers say about you is drawn from what other people have written. That makes reputation part of this work, and our online reputation management service handles the review profiles and mentions that answers repeat.
we can list the sites the AI answers cite for your category and show you which ones mention your competitors and not you.

Let the right crawlers in, and give them something to read
None of this works if the systems cannot read your store. Blocked crawlers are the most common reason a well-ranked brand is missing from AI answers, and it often happens without anyone deciding it.
The crawlers that matter
- Googlebot. AI Overviews and AI Mode use Google's normal search crawling, so the usual rules apply. A separate setting called Google-Extended controls whether content is used for Gemini models, and Google says it does not affect Search.
- OpenAI. OAI-SearchBot fetches pages for ChatGPT search; GPTBot is the training crawler, a separate choice.
- Perplexity. PerplexityBot builds its index, and a separate agent fetches pages when a user asks.
- Microsoft. Bingbot covers Bing and Copilot, so Bing Webmaster Tools matters more than many stores think.
- Anthropic. Claude has separate crawlers for search, for user requests and for training, each controllable on its own.
The settings that block them by accident
Robots.txt rules copied from a template, security plugins and the bot protection some hosts and CDNs now switch on by default can all turn these crawlers away. We check each one, then decide crawler by crawler which to allow, rather than leaving it to a default.
Content the crawlers can read
Answer engines read text. Product details hidden in tabs that only load after a click, specifications in images, and prices rendered late by scripts can all be missed. We make sure the important facts are in the page itself. We also add an llms.txt file, a proposed convention for guiding AI tools to your key pages, while being clear that no major engine has said it uses the file to choose sources.
we will review your robots.txt and your host's bot settings and tell you which AI assistants can currently read your store.
07Ecommerce Marketing
Answer the questions buyers actually ask
AI assistants are asked full questions: which one is better for a particular use, will it fit, how long does it last, what is the difference between two models. The stores that get cited are the ones that answer those questions on their own pages.
- Product Q&A. Real questions from customers and support emails, answered on the product page in plain words.
- Comparison pages. Your products against each other, and honest comparisons with the alternatives buyers consider.
- Buying guides. One strong guide per category that explains how to choose, linked to the category it serves.
- Reviews. Real reviews from real customers, shown on the product page, because answer engines quote what buyers say.
The questions come from your own data: search terms on your site, support tickets, returns reasons and the emails your customers send. Those same answers make good content for your email flows to past buyers, and a page that answers questions converts better too, which our conversion rate optimization service tests.
send us your ten most common customer questions and we will show you where each answer should live on the store.

How we measure AI visibility without inventing a number
There is no Search Console for most AI answers, and the tools that claim to score your AI visibility each measure something different. So we measure what we can see, the same way every time.
We build a fixed set of buyer questions for your products, categories and comparisons. On a regular schedule we run them on each platform and record whether your brand is named, how it is described, which competitors appear and which sources are cited. The trend across months tells you more than any single answer, because answers vary from one person and one day to the next.
Alongside that we watch the traffic. Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini appear in your analytics as their own referral sources, and we report the orders they bring as well as the visits. Google counts clicks and impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode inside the normal Search Console performance report, so your organic reporting already includes them.
AI SEO is one part of our ecommerce marketing agency service. For brands that want AI working inside the business as well as in the search results, our AI marketing and management agency covers customer service and lead delivery, and our custom AI solutions build tools for your store or service. For select brands, this work also sits inside our commission only ecommerce marketing offer, and for brands moving away from a single marketplace it supports our plan for selling on Amazon and off Amazon.

What we would measure for your business.
The parts of this page we will not guess at.
The live site has never published a price for anything. Rather than invent a plausible-looking number, each item is here and blank until it is set.
Get these lines filled in for your business. It takes what you sell, where, and your site.
10Ecommerce Marketing
The questions that come up every time.
What is ecommerce AI SEO?
It is the work of getting your brand and products named, described correctly and linked in the answers that AI tools give shoppers. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and Claude can all answer a question like which product to buy without the shopper visiting a results page. Ecommerce AI SEO makes your store easy for those systems to read, trust and cite, and builds your presence on the sources they draw from.
Is AI SEO different from regular SEO?
It sits on top of it. Google's AI features use the same index as regular search, and most answer engines start from pages they can crawl and understand, so a store with poor technical SEO is at a disadvantage everywhere. What changes is the emphasis: brand mentions on other sites matter more, consistent product data matters more, and crawler access for each assistant's own bots becomes something to check. We treat ecommerce SEO as the foundation and AI SEO as the layer on top.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT or Google will recommend my products?
No. Nobody controls those answers, and they change from one day to the next and one user to the next. Anyone selling a guaranteed placement in an AI answer is selling something they cannot deliver. What we can do is remove the reasons you are left out, such as blocked crawlers, missing data, an unclear brand and an absence from the sources the answers cite, and then track a fixed set of questions every month so you can see the trend.
Should I block AI crawlers from my store?
It depends on the crawler. The bots that fetch pages for search answers, like OpenAI's search crawler and Perplexity's, are the ones that let you appear in those answers, so blocking them usually costs a store visibility. Training crawlers are a separate decision about whether your content is used to build future models, and many brands choose differently there. We review your robots.txt and your host's security settings and make the choice deliberately, crawler by crawler.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It does no harm, and it costs very little. An llms.txt file is a proposed convention for giving AI tools a plain-text guide to the most useful pages on your site. None of the major answer engines has said it uses the file to choose which sources to cite, so we treat it as tidy housekeeping rather than a ranking lever. The work that clearly matters is crawler access, structured data, consistent product information and mentions on trusted sites.
How do you measure AI search visibility?
We build a set of the questions your buyers ask, by product, category and comparison, and run them on each platform on a fixed schedule. We record whether your brand is named, how it is described, which competitors appear and which sources are cited. Alongside that we watch referral traffic and orders from the AI assistants in your analytics. We do not publish a visibility score we have not measured for you.
Ask yours. The form reaches the people who would be doing the work.
