Estonian Backlinks for a Small, Digital-First Market

For businesses selling into Estonia, whether the buyer reads Estonian, Russian or both. We place native-written articles on Estonian outlets with real readers, build a separate Russian-language profile where you need one, and keep the footprint natural in a market small enough to notice.

“We do not touch poor or spammy sites unrelated to your business.”

  • Small market, careful footprint. In a web this size, a burst of links from the same few sites stands out quickly.
  • Estonian and Russian, built apart. Two reading audiences in one country, each with its own outlets and its own pages.
  • Native writers who handle the grammar. Estonian bends its words in ways a translator or a template cannot fake.

Start here.

Estonia is one of the smallest language markets in Europe and one of the most digital countries anywhere. The best way to build "Estonian backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Estonian-language site" is to contact us directly. Being small and highly digital at once changes which links you need and how fast they should arrive.

02Backlinks Building Service

A small web where every link is visible

In a market this size, the same few dozen sites keep coming up in the results for almost any commercial subject. That works for you and against you. A handful of relevant Estonian links can lift a page past competitors who have none. But a cluster of links from the same blogs, all published in the same month with the same kind of anchor, stands out to search engines and to the competitor who checks your profile.

So we plan Estonian links for spread and pace rather than volume:

  • Different outlet types. National news, regional portals, niche blogs and directories, mixed rather than one kind repeated.
  • A believable rhythm. Articles appear over months, the way real coverage would, instead of arriving in one batch.
  • Varied anchors. Your brand, plain descriptions and natural phrases, with very few exact-match keywords.

The country that runs online

Estonia runs much of its public life online. Tax returns, prescriptions, company registration and even voting happen online, and residents sign documents with a digital ID as a matter of routine. That shapes how people buy. Estonians expect to find, compare and buy online, and they expect a business to look credible on the web before they call it.

It also shapes the domain. The .ee country domain is open to foreign registrants, and the e-Residency programme lets people anywhere start and run an Estonian company remotely. So a lot of .ee sites publish only in English and have no Estonian readers at all. A link from one of them does little for an Estonian page. A link from an Estonian-language news site on any ending can do a lot. For your own site, a .ee address is a fair local signal, but only the Estonian content and the Estonian links behind it make it count.

Ask us

if you are an e-resident company selling to Estonians, we can check whether your site reads as Estonian to search engines or only carries the domain.

Estonian, Russian and English in one country

Estonian is the state language and the language of most business. A substantial Russian-speaking minority lives mainly in Tallinn and in Ida-Virumaa, around Narva in the north-east, and many of them read and search in Russian. English is widely read by younger Estonians and in the tech sector.

That gives many businesses three audiences and three sets of pages. Each needs links from Estonian sites in its own language. Several Estonian news organisations publish Russian-language editions, and there are Russian-language local outlets in the north-east, which makes those the right home for links to your Russian pages. Links from sites in Russia are a different matter: they point at another country's market and add little for a Russian page aimed at Estonia.

hreflang uses et for Estonian, ru-EE for Russian aimed at Estonia, and en for English. Each page should list the others. Get that wrong and the English page can appear for an Estonian search, which no link campaign can fix.

Next step

we can review your language versions and hreflang alongside your links, so each audience is sent to the right page.

One word, many endings, and the letter õ

Estonian is a Finno-Ugric language, closer to Finnish than to any of its other neighbours. Nouns take many case endings, so a word like a city name or a product changes form depending on its role in the sentence. Estonian also has its own letter, õ, alongside ä, ö and ü, plus š and ž in borrowed words.

For links, this matters in two ways. An exact-match anchor, the same phrase dropped into every article, rarely fits Estonian grammar and reads as forced. And the letters must survive: a page that turns õ into o or ö looks careless to a native reader, and a URL that keeps them in one place and strips them in another creates duplicate addresses. We pick one URL rule and keep it, and we let anchors follow the grammar of the sentence they sit in.

Call

if your Estonian pages were translated from English or Finnish, we can have a native writer check them before we point links at them.

Why links still lead, even in Estonia

Every year or so someone declares backlinks finished, but backlinks still matter no matter the date. Content, speed and site structure count too, and we look at all of them. But without some really good backlinks, an Estonian page will never pop up in search, will not rank and will be drowned out by the competition that has them.

Links are also a major indicator that a page should even be looked at by AI search. Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot draw on sources other sites already cite.

This is why a translated site with only English links goes nowhere. The domain may have English links, but nothing in Estonia mentions the Estonian pages, and search engines read that silence as a lack of local relevance. Once Estonian news sites and regional portals link to your Estonian pages, search engines have a local reason to show them, and the pages can compete with Estonian rivals.

Where Estonian links come from

We look for outlets with editors and readers, in Estonian or in Russian depending on the page:

  • National news portals. Read across the country, several with Russian-language editions alongside the Estonian ones.
  • Regional and county news. Tartu, Pärnu, Narva and smaller towns, read by the customers a local business needs.
  • Technology and startup sites. A natural home for software, fintech and business services, given the country's startup scene.
  • Niche blogs. Estonian writers on home, food, travel, outdoors, family and money.
  • Directories. Estonian business listings that confirm your name, address and field.

Get Found has a large network of authors and outlets, and we do not touch poor or spammy sites unrelated to your business. Our relationships are with Estonian PR outlets, the people behind niche Estonian blogs, influencers, and sites that real readers use and search engines trust, and every article is written by a native author in the outlet's language.

tell us your industry, and we will tell you which of these outlet types make sense in Estonia and which would look out of place.

The questions that come up every time.

Is Estonia too small a market for link building to matter?

The opposite. Estonian results for most commercial searches have only a few well-linked competitors, so each relevant Estonian link moves a page further than it would in English or German. The care is in the footprint: with fewer outlets to choose from, links must be spread sensibly and earned through real articles, or the pattern becomes obvious to search engines and to competitors.

Should I build links in Estonian or Russian?

It depends on who buys from you. Estonian is the state language and the main language of commerce, but a large Russian-speaking minority lives mostly in Tallinn and in Ida-Virumaa in the north-east. Many businesses need both. Each language version should have its own pages and its own links from Estonian sites in that language, linked together with hreflang.

Does a .ee domain prove a site is Estonian?

No. The .ee domain is open to foreign registrants, and Estonia's e-Residency programme means many companies run from abroad use it for English-only sites. A .ee address on your own site is still a good local signal. For outlets, we judge by language and readership, so an Estonian-language site on a .com can be worth more than an English one on a .ee.

Do backlinks still matter in a market this digital?

Yes. Estonians search and buy online as a matter of course, which makes being found matter even more. Links are not the only signal search engines and AI answer tools use, but they are one of the clearest indicators that a page deserves attention. A page with no Estonian links is rarely the one shown or quoted.

Can Finnish links help my Estonian pages?

Finnish and Estonian are related and many Finns visit or buy in Estonia, so Finnish links can help a Finnish version of your site aimed at those buyers. For an Estonian page they are a weak match, because the language and the readers differ. We build each profile from sites in its own language.

Who writes the Estonian articles?

Native Estonian writers who know the outlet and its readers. Estonian grammar is unforgiving to translation: words change their endings for many grammatical cases, and word order shifts with emphasis. Text produced by a tool reads wrong at once, and Estonian editors reject it. An Estonian article earns its place only if the outlet would run it with no link at all.

Ask yours. The form reaches the people who would be doing the work.
