Philippines Backlinks for a Market That Searches in Two Languages

For businesses selling in the Philippines or to Filipinos abroad. We place links on Philippine outlets in English, in Filipino and in the mix of both that people actually type, written by Filipino writers, so Google reads your site as part of the Philippine web.

“English is not enough in Manila search: the Philippine web has to vouch for you”

  • English and Filipino, planned together. Links on Philippine English-language outlets and Filipino-language ones, each pointed at the right page.
  • Written by Filipino writers. Native writers who know when a reader expects English, Filipino or Taglish.
  • Local, not just English. A Philippine link from a Philippine outlet, not a generic English site that happens to mention Manila.

Start here.

The best way to build "Philippines backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Philippine site in English and Filipino" is to contact us directly. The Philippines is the rare market where a site can rank in English and still lose to a local competitor, because Google wants to see the Philippine web vouch for you, and writing in English does not show that on its own.

Two languages in one search bar

Filipinos search in English, in Filipino, and very often in Taglish, the everyday mix of Tagalog and English in a single sentence. Someone looking for a phone repair shop, a loan, a recipe or a school might type any of the three, sometimes in the same afternoon.

That makes the Philippines different from markets where the local language is the whole story. English is a local language here. National broadsheets, business media and a great deal of commerce publish in English, while tabloids, entertainment sites and much of social media lean Filipino. A link plan built for only one of those audiences leaves out a large part of the market.

The language of the link should match the language of the page it points at. An English article on a Philippine business site links naturally to your English page; a Filipino lifestyle blog links naturally to a Filipino page, if you have one. Pointing a Filipino-language article at an English page is not wrong, but it carries less relevance than it could, so we plan the pairing before anything is placed.

  • English-language Philippine outlets. National news, business and technology sites read by Filipinos and published for them.
  • Filipino-language outlets. Tabloids, entertainment and lifestyle sites, and blogs that write the way people talk.
  • Taglish in the anchors. Natural mixed-language phrasing where the outlet itself writes that way.

Why a Philippine link beats an English link

A foreign company with an English site sometimes assumes it already competes in the Philippines, since the language is shared. It does compete, with every English site on earth. What it lacks is the signal that says it belongs in Philippine results, and that signal comes mostly from Philippine sites linking to it.

The same is true of a translated page with English-only links. A business that adds a Filipino version and points its foreign English links at it has given Google a Filipino page with no Filipino support, and it rarely ranks against local competitors. Links from Philippine outlets, in whichever language each outlet writes, close that gap.

Backlinks still matter here no matter the date. A Philippine site without strong links rarely shows up in search at all, cannot climb the rankings and gets buried under local competitors that have them. Links are not the only factor, since content, speed and mobile experience count heavily in a country that browses mostly on phones. But Philippine links still tell Google and the AI tools whether your site deserves a look in the first place, by Google and by AI search tools that cite the sources they trust.

.ph, hreflang and the country signal

Google is the search engine Filipinos use, and it needs to know which country your pages are for. There are three ways to say so, and they work best together:

Signal What it does
A .ph or .com.ph domain Tells Google the whole site is for the Philippines
hreflang en-PH and tl-PH Points Philippine searchers to the right language version on a multi-country site
Philippine backlinks Confirms with outside evidence that Philippine sites know and trust you

The first two are claims you make about yourself. The third is the one Google has to take from others, which is why it carries weight. A .com site with a Philippine folder and good en-PH tags can rank well when local links point at that folder; a .ph site with no local links has nothing outside itself to back up the claim.

One detail trips people up: Filipino has no two-letter language code of its own, so Filipino pages are normally tagged with tl, the code for Tagalog. It is the same code the translate button on this page uses.

Next step

ask us to check your hreflang and domain setup before links go live, so they point at the version you want ranked.

Beyond Metro Manila

National outlets give reach, but the Philippines is an archipelago with strong regional identities, and a business in Cebu or Davao competes first with businesses in Cebu or Davao. Regional portals, city news sites and local business groups in places such as Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Baguio and Cagayan de Oro carry local relevance a Manila site cannot.

Regional languages matter too. Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon and others are widely spoken, though most online publishing in those regions still happens in English or Filipino. For a regional business, a local English-language portal in its own city is often the most valuable link it can earn.

Spammy Philippine sites, and sites with no link to what you sell, get nothing from us. We work with Philippine press contacts, niche bloggers, influencers and sites that Filipinos really visit, and on a Philippine campaign the articles carrying your link are written by Filipino writers who know which register each outlet uses.

Overseas Filipinos are part of the market

Filipinos live and work all over the world, in the Gulf states, the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Europe, and they stay closely tied to home. For remittance services, property developers, schools, insurance, travel and balikbayan box shippers, the buyer is often abroad while the product is in the Philippines.

Those readers search from outside the country, often in English, and they read Filipino community media where they live. Links from those outlets tell Google you serve Filipinos wherever they are. We plan them as their own audience, with their own pages and anchors, alongside the domestic profile.

How we build Philippines links with you

When you hire Get Found directly, our Filipino writers and Philippine outlets work on your campaign, since link building is the service we lead with. A Philippine campaign starts with your current profile and the local sites outranking you, then a plan setting the English, Filipino and regional mix, then native articles placed on relevant Philippine outlets. Each article is matched to the page it supports, English to English, Filipino to Filipino.

Every placement is chosen so your Philippine profile survives Google's updates and any rival's attempt to undermine it. We will not name a ranking or a date, since neither can be known before the links are live.

Read more on our backlinks building service page, see how we plan a link strategy that fits your budget, or browse every niche and language on the backlink building services hub. Nearby markets include Malay backlinks for Malaysia and Brunei and Vietnamese-language links, and for the Gulf, Arabic backlinks. When you are ready, contact us about your Philippine site.

The questions that come up every time.

Should my Philippine site be in English or Filipino?

For most businesses, English is the main language of the site, because a great deal of Philippine commerce, news and search happens in English. But many people search in Filipino or in Taglish, especially for everyday products and local services, and pages written in natural Filipino can capture those searches. The answer depends on your buyers. We look at what they type before recommending either, and we build links for whichever versions you publish.

Does a link from any English-language site help me rank in the Philippines?

Much less than a link from a Philippine site. Google weighs a link by how relevant and trusted its source is for your audience. An English blog in another country tells Google little about whether Filipinos trust you. A Philippine English-language outlet, a .ph directory or a Filipino blog in your niche says much more, even though the language is the same.

What hreflang should a Philippine site use?

English pages for the Philippines take en-PH. Filipino-language pages are usually marked with tl, the code for Tagalog, since Filipino has no two-letter code of its own; tl-PH is common. If your site also has pages for other English-speaking countries, en-PH is what stops Google showing your American or Australian page to a searcher in Quezon City.

Can you build links in Cebuano or other regional languages?

Where a business sells mainly in one region, regional-language content and outlets can make sense, and we can discuss it. For most campaigns, the bulk of the work is in English and Filipino, because that is where most Philippine publishing happens. Regional English-language portals in Cebu, Davao and other cities are often the better way to get local relevance outside Metro Manila.

Do backlinks still matter now that AI search answers questions directly?

Yes. AI Overviews, ChatGPT search and Perplexity cite a few sources when they answer, and they lean on sites the rest of the web already references. Links from trusted Philippine outlets are one of the clearest signals of that. Links are not the only factor, since your content still has to be good, but they are still a major indicator that a site deserves to be looked at.

Next step

Ask yours. The form reaches the people who would be doing the work.
