Azerbaijani Backlinks for .az Sites and Azerbaijani Readers

For businesses with an Azerbaijani-language site, or a foreign brand reaching buyers in Baku and beyond, that needs Azerbaijani searchers to find it. Our native authors write for outlets read in Azerbaijan, in correct Latin-script Azerbaijani, with Russian and English links planned where your buyers read them.

  • Modern Latin-script Azerbaijani. Anchors and articles use ə, ğ, ı, ş, q and x correctly and keep Turkish spellings and Cyrillic leftovers out.
  • Outlets read in Azerbaijan. National news, Baku portals, regional sites and niche blogs chosen for real readers.
  • Planned for a three-language market. Azerbaijani first, with Russian and English links where your buyers read them.

The best way to build "Azerbaijani backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Azerbaijani-language site" is to contact us directly. Azerbaijan is a market where buyers move between three languages and the alphabet itself has changed within living memory, so links have to be written for the reader you actually want, in the language and the alphabet that reader uses today.

Baku buyers search in Azerbaijani, Russian and English

Google is the engine most people in Azerbaijan use, and Yandex keeps a following among Russian speakers. On top of both sit the AI answers: Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity all answer questions in Azerbaijani, and they lean on the sources the Azerbaijani web already trusts.

The harder question is language. Business in Baku runs in Azerbaijani, Russian and increasingly English, and the same buyer may search in one at home and another at work. Azerbaijani is the national language and the one most searches use, especially outside the capital and among younger readers. Russian remains common in business and among older readers. English matters in energy, finance, tourism and anything with international buyers.

  • Azerbaijani first. The main version of your site, marked az in hreflang, with links from Azerbaijani-language outlets.
  • Russian where your buyers read it. A version marked ru-AZ, supported by the Russian editions many Azerbaijani news outlets publish.
  • English for international buyers. Supported by English-language coverage, kept separate from the local profile.

The alphabet changed, and the web still shows it

Azerbaijani has been written in three scripts in a century: Arabic script until the late 1920s, then Latin, then Cyrillic for most of the Soviet period, and Latin again after independence, with the switch only completed around the turn of the century. For a short time after independence the schwa was even written ä before ə took its place. Older archives, some company sites and plenty of printed material still carry Cyrillic text.

The modern alphabet has letters that trip up non-native writers and software alike: ə, the most common vowel in the language; ı and i as separate letters; ğ, ş, ç, ö and ü; and q and x, which do not sound the way an English reader expects. Many people type e for ə and i for ı because their keyboard lacks them, and Google matches most of these to the correct forms.

For links that gives a clear rule. Visible text and anchors use correct modern Azerbaijani. Slugs usually convert special letters to plain ones so addresses paste cleanly. Anything in Cyrillic, Turkish spelling or a mix of the two marks an article as written by an outsider.

A translated page with English links stays invisible

Many companies enter Azerbaijan by translating their site and waiting. The Azerbaijani pages get indexed and then sit there. Translation changes the words on the page, but the authority stays with the English version. Every link pointing at the English site says English readers trust it; none of them says Azerbaijani readers or publishers vouch for the Azerbaijani version.

Whatever year it is, links still count. Content, speed and local detail count too, but links remain one of the strongest hints search engines and AI search use when deciding whether a site deserves their attention at all. With no good Azerbaijani links behind it, a site rarely shows up in results and stays below the local competitors that Azerbaijani media have covered for years.

Azerbaijani, not Turkish: why the writer matters

Turkish and Azerbaijani are close relatives, and it is tempting to hand Azerbaijani work to a Turkish writer. Azerbaijani readers notice within a sentence. Everyday vocabulary differs, spelling follows different rules, and Azerbaijani uses letters Turkish never does. An article that reads as Turkish with a few changes tells an Azerbaijani editor that nobody local wrote it, and most will not publish it.

Every Azerbaijani article we place is written by a native Azerbaijani author for the readers of that outlet. You approve the topic and the page each link points at; the author writes in Azerbaijani from the first line. If you also sell in Turkey, our page on Turkish link building covers that market separately, with its own outlets and its own writers.

.az and the address that tells buyers you are local

Azerbaijan's country domain is .az, with business addresses such as .com.az underneath it. Local buyers read it as a sign of a company present in the country. A foreign brand can rank from an Azerbaijani folder or subdomain of its main site, provided hreflang is correct and the page is plainly written for Azerbaijan: prices in manat, local delivery and Azerbaijani-language support.

The links have to match whichever structure you choose. Azerbaijani links pointing at an English home page do little for an Azerbaijani folder several clicks away. We aim each one at the Azerbaijani page it is meant to lift, and keep Russian and English links pointed at their own versions.

The Azerbaijani outlets that pass real value

The Azerbaijani web is smaller than its neighbours', which makes each good source count for more. National news agencies and portals lead it, many publishing in Azerbaijani, Russian and English at once. Baku has its own city and lifestyle portals, and regional news sites cover Ganja, Sumgait, Lankaran, Sheki and the rest of the country. Specialist blogs cover technology, travel, food, cars and family, and business directories and industry associations round it out.

We leave out spammy or low-grade sites that are unrelated to your business. Get Found has deep relationships with PR outlets in Baku, owners of Azerbaijani niche blogs, influencers, and sites that have genuine readers and links worth having. A smaller web also means fewer places to hide a bought link, so a clean profile matters more here than in a larger market.

The diaspora and the readers across borders

Azerbaijani readers also live in Turkey, Russia, Europe and southern Georgia, and many still read Azerbaijani outlets. Readers in Georgia may need their own pages; our guide to Georgian-language backlinks covers that market. Azerbaijani speakers in northwest Iran write in Arabic script, and reaching them is a separate project. For Russian-speaking readers across the Caspian region, the approach on our Kazakh link building page is a useful comparison.

The questions that come up every time.

Can a Turkish writer produce my Azerbaijani articles?

No. Turkish and Azerbaijani are close relatives, and readers of each can follow much of the other, but vocabulary, spelling and grammar differ in ways Azerbaijani readers spot in a line or two. Azerbaijani has letters Turkish does not use, such as ə, q and x, and many everyday words are different. Every Azerbaijani article we place is written by a native Azerbaijani author for that outlet's readers.

Should my site also be in Russian?

It depends on your buyers. Russian is still widely used in business in Baku and is read by many older Azerbaijanis, and some national news outlets publish Russian editions. If your customers search in Russian, a Russian version marked ru-AZ in hreflang, with links from the Russian-language editions of Azerbaijani outlets, can reach them. If they search in Azerbaijani, that comes first.

Should Azerbaijani URLs include ə, ş and ğ?

Most Azerbaijani sites convert these to plain letters in the slug, so ə becomes e and ş becomes s, because addresses with special characters turn into long encoded strings when they are shared. That is fine as long as the rule is consistent and the visible text keeps correct Azerbaijani. In anchors and headings, use the real letters.

Do links from English sites help my Azerbaijani pages?

A little, through the overall strength of your domain, but they do not tell search engines that Azerbaijani readers or publishers vouch for your Azerbaijani pages. A translated site carrying only its English links looks like a foreign site with an Azerbaijani layer. It competes with local companies that Azerbaijani media have covered for years, and it usually loses.

What about Azerbaijani speakers in Iran?

A large Azerbaijani-speaking population lives in northwest Iran, but they write the language in Arabic script, not the Latin alphabet used in Azerbaijan, and much of their reading online is in Persian. Reaching them is a separate project with separate pages, writers and outlets. This page covers Latin-script Azerbaijani for Azerbaijan and the diaspora that reads it.

Do backlinks matter for AI search in Azerbaijani?

Yes. AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity answer questions in Azerbaijani, and they rely on the sources the wider web already treats as credible. In a language with a smaller web, each credible Azerbaijani source counts for more. A business linked and discussed by Azerbaijani outlets gives an AI answer something to cite.
