Bulgarian Backlinks Written in Cyrillic, Placed on Bulgarian Sites

For companies with a Bulgarian-language site, or a Bulgarian version of an international one, that should rank in Bulgaria and does not. We place links on Bulgarian sites that people actually read, in articles written natively in Bulgarian.

  • Bulgarian sites in Bulgarian. Sharing the Cyrillic alphabet is not enough, so Russian-language pages sold as a match stay out of your profile.
  • Built for a small market. Where every link is visible, a few strong Bulgarian placements beat a pile of foreign ones.
  • From Sofia to the diaspora. National, regional and community outlets, chosen for where your customers are.

01Backlinks Building Service

Start here.

The best way to build "Bulgarian backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Bulgarian-language site" is to contact us directly. Bulgaria is a compact search market where Google handles nearly every search and where a few good Bulgarian links can do more than a pile of foreign ones. Most of the trouble starts when Bulgarian links are bought from abroad by people who do not read the language.

Cyrillic is where most Bulgarian link profiles go wrong

Bulgarian is written in Cyrillic, and that single fact trips up most link campaigns run by people who do not read it.

Russian Cyrillic is not Bulgarian

The two languages share an alphabet, but their vocabularies are far apart. Bulgarian has no ы or э, uses ъ as a full vowel, has a definite article tacked onto the end of nouns, and reads very differently from Russian. A link placed on a Russian-language site, or in an article machine-translated from Russian, does not count as a Bulgarian signal, and a Bulgarian reader spots it within a line. Cheap packages sold as Cyrillic links often mix Russian, Serbian and Bulgarian sites as if they were the same thing.

Anchors in Cyrillic, slugs by decision

Anchor text in a Bulgarian article should be Bulgarian, in Cyrillic, in the word form a native writer would choose for that sentence. URLs are a separate choice. Cyrillic slugs are readable in the address bar but turn into long percent-encoded strings when copied, which some content systems break. Many Bulgarian sites transliterate slugs into Latin letters using the official Bulgarian system, where щ becomes sht and ж becomes zh. Pick one approach, apply it everywhere, and make sure every placed link uses the exact live URL.

Latin-letter Bulgarian is how some people type, not how outlets publish

Some Bulgarians still type in Latin letters on phones and in comments, a habit known locally as shlyokavitsa. Searchers occasionally use it, but serious outlets publish in Cyrillic, and your pages and the articles that link to them should too.

A small market rewards the right links and exposes the wrong ones

In a smaller language market there are fewer sites, fewer pages competing for each search and fewer Bulgarian links pointing at anyone. That cuts both ways. One link from a respected Bulgarian outlet stands out in a way it would not in English, and so does a cluster of links from a spam network.

Backlinks still matter here, whatever the year. They are not the only factor: content, speed, mobile experience and how well the page answers the question all count. But Google still reads a link from a trusted site in the same language as a sign that a page deserves attention at all, and the AI tools that answer questions in Bulgarian draw on the same trusted pages. A Bulgarian site with no Bulgarian links tends to sit below competitors who have them, however good its writing is.

The Bulgarian sites worth a link

Get Found works through deep relationships with PR outlets, niche blog owners and influencers in Bulgaria, plus sites that real Bulgarians visit and whose links hold value. In Bulgaria that means editors and site owners who publish a well-written article because their readers will want it. Each of the main kinds of Bulgarian site does a different job for you.

Kind of site What a link from it does for a .bg site
National news portals Authority across the country, and more people searching for your brand
City and regional portals in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas Local relevance for businesses with a physical presence
Niche blogs and specialist magazines Topical relevance in your field, read by your buyers
Business directories and industry associations Confirmation of who you are and where you operate
Forums and community sites Real conversation and referral visits, used sparingly

We stay off low-quality or spammy sites that are irrelevant to what you offer. In a market this size, those sites are easy to recognise, and so is the pattern they leave in a link profile.

Native Bulgarian writers, not translated guest posts

Every article we place on a Bulgarian site is written in Bulgarian by a native speaker. A translated English guest post reads like one, and good Bulgarian editors turn it down. Native writers also know what Bulgarian readers expect: local examples, local institutions, the way a Bulgarian would actually phrase the question.

Each writer is briefed on your business, the page the link should support and the outlet's audience. The anchor goes where a reader would click it, in words that describe the page. A profile made of links like these can hold its ground through any Google update or a competitor's attempt to harm it, since there is nothing in it you would need to hide.

Bulgarian pages that sell beyond Bulgaria

Bulgaria is in the European Union, many Bulgarian companies sell into neighbouring countries, and many foreign companies sell into Bulgaria. Each needs hreflang set up properly: bg-BG for the Bulgarian version, with the other language versions pointing at it and it pointing back. Without that, Google may show your English page to Bulgarian searchers, or your Bulgarian page to nobody.

There is also a large Bulgarian diaspora in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and the United States. Much of it still searches in Bulgarian, both for services back home and for community services where it lives. Diaspora community sites and Bulgarian-language media abroad are a separate set of outlets, worth the effort for businesses that serve that audience.

If your plans cover the neighbours, our pages on Greek-language link building and Turkish backlinks explain those markets, and Serbian backlinks covers the other large Cyrillic market nearby, where sites publish in both Cyrillic and Latin.

if your site has more than one language version, we will check your hreflang before we build a single link, because links to the wrong version are wasted.

What working with us looks like

We audit your Bulgarian pages and the links already pointing at them, then write a plan that lists the kinds of outlets we will approach and the page each link should support. Then we do the work: native writers, outreach, placement, and a check of every live link to confirm it points where it should.

When you work with us directly, as a leading provider of Backlink Building Services, you deal with a large network of authors and outlets and no reseller adds a markup on top. The size of the network, the price per link, the turnaround and how we report are agreed when we talk.

Bulgarian links are one part of our link building services. For how we shape a strategy to your budget, read about our backlink company approach; for every niche and language we cover, see the full backlinks building service. When you are ready, tell us about your Bulgarian site.

The questions that come up every time.

Are Russian-language links the same as Bulgarian backlinks?

No. Bulgarian and Russian share the Cyrillic alphabet but they are different languages with different vocabulary, grammar and spelling. Google identifies the language of a page, and a Russian article linking to a Bulgarian page is a foreign-language link, worth no more to your Bulgarian rankings than an English one. Some cheap packages sold as Cyrillic links mix the two. Bulgarian readers notice instantly, and so do the editors of any outlet worth being on.

Should my Bulgarian URLs use Cyrillic or Latin letters?

Both can rank. Cyrillic slugs are readable in the address bar but become long percent-encoded strings when copied, and some publishing systems mangle them. Many Bulgarian sites transliterate into Latin letters using the official Bulgarian system, so a word with щ is spelled with sht. Whichever you choose, use it on every page, redirect old versions, and make sure each placed link uses the exact live address.

Do backlinks still matter for a Bulgarian site?

Yes. Content, speed and how well a page answers the search all count, and links are not the whole picture. But in Bulgarian results, as anywhere, a link from a trusted site in the same language is one of the strongest signs that a page deserves to be considered. Sites without them rarely appear for competitive searches, however good their content. AI answers in Bulgarian draw on the same trusted pages too.

Can you build links for a Bulgarian site that also sells in Greece or Romania?

Yes, as long as each market has its own language version and hreflang tying them together. Bulgarian links then go to the Bulgarian version and Greek links to the Greek one. Building all links to one version and hoping it ranks everywhere is the usual mistake. We check the site structure first, because links pointed at the wrong version are wasted.

Who writes the Bulgarian articles?

Native Bulgarian writers, briefed on your business, the page the link should support and the outlet's audience. Translated English guest posts read as foreign within a line, and good Bulgarian editors decline them. A native writer picks local examples, the phrasing a Bulgarian would use and an angle the outlet's readers will want, which is what gets an article published and read.

Ask yours. The form reaches the people who would be doing the work.
