Serbian Backlinks for a Language Written in Two Alphabets
For businesses selling in Serbia, to Serbian readers in the wider region, or to the Serbian diaspora. We place links on Serbian-language outlets in the script each one publishes in, written by native Serbian writers and pointed at the pages you want to rank.
“In Serbia the script decides which links can help a page”
No obligation. Tell us what you sell and where, and a person replies.
- Both scripts, handled properly. Cyrillic and Latin Serbian, matched to each outlet and to the version of your site the link points at.
- Serbian outlets, native writers. National portals, regional news, niche blogs and directories, with copy written natively in Serbian.
- A profile that lasts. Serbian links come only from relevant sites, never from spam or filler outlets.

The best way to build "Serbian backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Serbian-language site, in Cyrillic, Latin or both" is to contact us directly. Serbian is one of very few languages people write every day in two alphabets, and that single fact shapes how a Serbian site ranks. When your pages and links use the script your readers use, the links add up.

One language, two alphabets
Serbian Cyrillic (ћирилица) and Serbian Latin (latinica) each have 30 letters and match one to one: ч is č, ђ is đ, љ is lj, њ is nj, џ is dž. Anyone who reads one can read the other. Cyrillic is the official script under the constitution; Latin is everywhere online, in business, technology, advertising and much of social media.
To a search engine, though, они and oni are different strings. Google understands that both are Serbian and can connect them, but a page ranks most reliably for the script it is written in, and a link in one script supports text in that script best. That is the first decision in any Serbian link plan.
- Cyrillic sites. Common in public institutions, much traditional media, culture, education and some heritage brands.
- Latin sites. Common in ecommerce, technology, services and advertising, and the script most people type searches in.
- Both. Many Serbian news portals publish in both alphabets with a toggle, and so can you.
tell us which script your buyers read and search in, and we will tell you which your links should be in.

If you publish both scripts, set them up as two versions
A site that offers both alphabets needs each version on its own URL, not a script switch that rewrites the same address. Then hreflang tells Google they are the same language in different alphabets: sr-Cyrl and sr-Latn, with a country where it helps, such as sr-Latn-RS. Without that, the two versions compete with each other and split the links meant to help them.
Links then go where they belong. A Cyrillic article on a Cyrillic portal points at your Cyrillic page; a Latin article on a Latin blog points at your Latin page. Slugs are usually written in Latin without diacritics on both versions, so addresses survive being shared.
What a Serbian anchor mix looks like
- Your brand in both scripts. Many Serbian businesses are known by a Cyrillic and a Latin form of the same name, and a natural profile carries both.
- Serbian phrases in the right case. Serbian has seven grammatical cases, so a product name changes its ending inside a sentence. Native writers get that right without thinking; translated anchors rarely do.
- Plain URLs. A share of links that are simply your address, which is how many real citations look.
ask us to check your script versions and hreflang before links are placed, so each link lands on the right version.

Google, .rs and why links still decide
Serbia searches on Google, overwhelmingly. Its country domain is .rs, and a Cyrillic country domain, .срб, exists alongside it, though most Serbian sites use .rs or generic domains.
Links still matter there, no matter the date. Without some really good backlinks a Serbian site will never pop up in search, will not rank and will be drowned out by the competition. They are not the only factor, and a weak page will not be rescued by links alone. But a link profile is still a major indicator that a website should even be looked at, by Google and by AI search tools that answer with a few cited sources.
In Serbia, as elsewhere, translated pages with only English links fail most often. A foreign company adds a Serbian version and points its English links at it; nothing written in Serbian vouches for the page, so local competitors with Serbian links outrank it. The fix is Serbian-language articles on Serbian outlets, pointed at the Serbian pages.
if your Serbian pages exist but never rank, ask us to compare your profile with the Serbian sites beating you.

Serbian, not Croatian, and not ijekavian by accident
Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin are mutually intelligible, and some link sellers treat them as one market. They are not, for readers or for Google. Serbia writes ekavian forms, mleko, lepo, vreme, where Croatia and much of Bosnia and Montenegro write ijekavian, mlijeko, lijepo, vrijeme. Everyday words differ too: voz, hleb and nedelja in Serbia; vlak, kruh and tjedan in Croatia.
A Serbian page supported by Croatian sites tells Google Croatia knows you. A Serbian page written with Croatian vocabulary tells readers the writer is not Serbian. Our writers write Serbian natively, and our Croatian backlinks page covers the market next door on its own terms.
Serbian readers also live outside Serbia. Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina uses Serbian, often ijekavian and often Cyrillic, and Montenegro has a large Serbian-speaking population. Pages written for those readers deserve their own outlets and their own country codes in hreflang.
if your content was written by someone outside Serbia, ask us to check whether it reads as Serbian.

Serbian outlets and native writers
Serbian spam sites and sites with no tie to your business are never on our list. We place through Serbian press contacts, niche bloggers, influencers and sites with a genuine audience. Serbian outlets worth a link come in four kinds:
| Outlet type | What it gives a Serbian site |
|---|---|
| National news portals | Authority and reach, often in both scripts |
| Regional portals | Local relevance in Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac, Subotica and beyond |
| Niche Serbian blogs | Topical relevance in technology, food, parenting, finance, sport |
| Directories and chambers | Trust from Serbian business listings and chambers that someone keeps up to date |
Vojvodina deserves a note: it is home to Hungarian, Slovak and other communities, and businesses there may need Hungarian-language links as well as Serbian ones.
The dijaspora
Serbia's diaspora is large and long established, in Germany, Austria and Switzerland above all, and in the United States, Canada and Australia. Those readers search in Serbian and in local languages, and their community outlets are relevant links for travel, remittance, property, legal and food businesses. We plan them as their own audience.
if part of your market lives in the dijaspora or across a border, we will plan a separate set of outlets for it.

How we build Serbian links with you
Work with Get Found directly and our Serbian writers and outlets are yours to use, as link building is the work we specialise in. A Serbian campaign starts with an audit of your profile and your script setup, then a plan for outlets, scripts and anchors, then native Serbian articles on relevant sites. Each article is written in the script of the outlet and the page it points at.
We want your Serbian profile to come through Google updates and any rival's sabotage still standing. You get an honest plan, and we do not promise a ranking or a deadline.

The questions that come up every time.
Should my Serbian site be in Cyrillic or Latin?
It depends on your audience and your field. Cyrillic is the official script and is standard in government, much traditional media and many cultural settings; Latin is very common online, in business, technology and advertising, and most people type searches in Latin. Many Serbian news sites publish both. If you choose one, choose the one your buyers read. If you publish both, give each its own URLs and hreflang so they do not compete.
Does Google treat Cyrillic and Latin Serbian as the same?
Not as the same text. The two alphabets map one to one, but to a search engine они and oni are different strings. Google does understand that both are Serbian, and it can connect them, but your pages rank most reliably for the script they are written in. Links in each script help the version written in it, which is why we match articles to the version of your site they point at.
Can I use Croatian or Bosnian sites for Serbian links?
Only where the site is genuinely relevant to your business. The languages are mutually intelligible, but the outlets serve different readers, and Google weighs links by relevance to your audience. A Serbian page is best supported by Serbian outlets. Copy matters too: Serbia uses ekavian forms like mleko and lepo, and words like voz, hleb and nedelja, which our native writers use without thinking.
What hreflang should a Serbian site use?
sr-RS for Serbia in general. If you publish both alphabets, use the script subtags, sr-Cyrl and sr-Latn, optionally with the country, such as sr-Cyrl-RS. Pages written for Serbian readers in Montenegro or in Bosnia and Herzegovina can take their own country codes. The aim is that each searcher sees the version written for them, in the script they expect.
Do backlinks still matter now that AI search answers questions?
Yes. AI Overviews, ChatGPT search and Perplexity cite a handful of sources, and they favour sites the rest of the web already references. Links from trusted Serbian outlets help establish that. Links are not the only factor, but they are still a major indicator that a site should even be looked at by search engines or AI search.
Ask yours. The form reaches the people who would be doing the work.
