Indonesian Backlinks for a Phone-First Search Market
For businesses that want to be found by Indonesian searchers, from Jakarta to Medan to Makassar. We write in Bahasa Indonesia rather than Malay, place articles on outlets people read on their phones, and point every link at the Indonesian page built for them.
“We pass on poor or spammy sites with nothing to do with your product or service.”
No obligation. Tell us what you sell and where, and a person replies.
- Bahasa Indonesia, not Malay. The two look alike on paper, but readers and search engines both notice the difference.
- Built for the phone. Indonesia reads the web on mobile, so we pick outlets whose articles work on a small screen.
- Beyond Jakarta. Regional portals across Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali and Kalimantan, alongside the capital's national sites.

Indonesia is one of the largest search markets in the world, and most of it happens on a phone. The best way to build "Indonesian backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Indonesian-language site" is to contact us directly. Link building in Bahasa Indonesia differs from English link building in a few practical ways, and they shape every plan we write for it.

Indonesia searches on a phone first
For a great many Indonesians the phone was the first internet device, and for many it is still the only one. Search, news, shopping and chat all happen on a small screen, often on mobile data that is slower and costlier outside the big cities. That shapes link building in ways a desktop-first plan misses.
A link inside an article that takes a long time to load, or is buried under pop-ups, sends few real visitors. Google indexes the mobile version of pages, so the version of the linking page that counts is the one a phone sees. When we choose Indonesian outlets, we open their articles on a mid-range Android phone as well as on a laptop and see how they behave.
- Readable on mobile. Article pages that load and show the text, with the link inside it, rather than hidden behind a wall of ads.
- Shared in chat. Indonesian articles spread through WhatsApp groups, so useful pieces earn visits long after publication.
- Your landing page too. The Indonesian page the link points to has to be quick and light, or the visitor leaves before reading.
send us your Indonesian landing page and we will check how it loads on a phone before we plan a single link to it.

Indonesian and Malay are close, and that is the trap
Bahasa Indonesia and Malay grew from the same language, and the two countries aligned their spelling in 1972. A Malaysian and an Indonesian can mostly read each other's news. But everyday words differ, and so do the readers. Money is uang in Jakarta and wang in Kuala Lumpur. Kereta is a train in Indonesia and a car in Malaysia. Indonesian borrowed heavily from Dutch, Malaysian from English, so office, hospital and police all look different.
This matters in two ways. Content written in Malay reads as foreign to an Indonesian buyer, and links from Malaysian outlets come from sites whose audience is in another country. Search engines can tell, because they know who reads a site and which country its links come from. We build a Malay profile on our Malay link building page and an Indonesian one here, and we do not mix them.
if your Indonesian pages were written by a Malay speaker or a translation tool, we can have a native writer review the wording before we build links to it.

Why links still decide who Indonesians find
Someone writes every year that backlinks no longer matter, yet backlinks still matter no matter the date. Speed, content and mobile usability all count, and we look at them, but links are still one of the main ways search engines decide which pages to show. Without some really good backlinks, an Indonesian page will never pop up in search, will not rank and will be drowned out by the competition that has them.
The same applies to AI search. Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot lean on pages that other sites already cite. A page no Indonesian site mentions is unlikely to be the source an AI answer quotes when someone asks in Indonesian.
In product searches you also compete with marketplaces. Tokopedia, Shopee and similar platforms fill many results with listings. Links to buying guides, comparison pages and category pages on your own site are how you earn a place among them.
tell us the Indonesian searches you care about and we will show you who ranks for them and what links they have.

.id, .co.id and the Indonesian domain family
Indonesia's country domain is .id, with second-level endings that say what kind of site it is: .co.id for companies, .ac.id for universities, .sch.id for schools, .go.id for government and .or.id for organisations. Registering most of them generally needs Indonesian identity or company documents, which is part of why they read as a local signal.
A .co.id address helps, but it is not required to rank. A .com with an Indonesian section, correct hreflang and Indonesian links can do well. One technical point catches sites out: the language code for Indonesian is id. An older code, in, was retired long ago, but some software and locale settings still output it. hreflang should say id, with id-ID if you also target other countries.
we can check your domain, hreflang tags and language settings alongside your links, so everything tells search engines the same thing.

A translated site with English links is invisible locally
A common case starts with a translation. A business translates its site into Indonesian, publishes it, and waits. The domain has English links, sometimes strong ones, but not one Indonesian site points to the Indonesian pages. The anchors are in English and the referring sites are read in London or Sydney, so the Indonesian section has no local vote of confidence. Search engines then treat it as a copy of the English site rather than as an Indonesian resource.
Translation quality makes it worse. Indonesian readers spot machine translation quickly, and they leave. An Indonesian page written by a native speaker, and cited by Indonesian news portals, regional sites and niche blogs, looks like part of the Indonesian web, and search engines rank that version far more readily.
if your Indonesian pages have been live for months with no movement, we will count the Indonesian links pointing at them and plan the first ones.

Where Indonesian links come from, island by island
Indonesia is not Jakarta alone. A business selling in Surabaya, Medan, Bandung, Makassar or Bali needs links that readers there see. We look for outlets with real readers and real editors:
- National news portals. Jakarta-based sites read across the country, where expert articles and features can earn a place.
- Regional and city news. Online editions of regional papers and city portals in Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali and Kalimantan.
- Niche blogs. Indonesian writers on gadgets, food, travel, parenting, finance, religion and small business, a very active blogging scene.
- Influencers with their own sites. Creators who publish on a blog or a portal as well as on social media.
- Directories. Indonesian business listings that confirm your name, location and category.
Get Found has a large network of authors and outlets, and every Indonesian placement passes the same test: we pass on poor or spammy sites with nothing to do with your product or service. Our relationships are with Indonesian PR outlets, niche bloggers, influencers, and sites with real visitors whose links carry weight. Every article is written by a native Indonesian author, in a register that fits the outlet, from formal news style to the relaxed tone of a lifestyle blog.
There is also an Indonesian audience abroad: workers in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Gulf, and students in Australia and the Netherlands. If they are your buyers, we include outlets and community sites they read.
tell us which islands and cities you sell to, and we will tell you which outlet types fit your business there.

How an Indonesian campaign starts
First we look at the Indonesian results you want to appear in: which pages rank, which Indonesian sites cite them, and how your own pages compare. Then we agree a short list of topics your buyers would actually search, pair each with a portal or blog whose readers fit, and brief a writer from Indonesia. Because each link lives inside a piece that earns its place on the outlet, the profile can keep standing after Google updates and after a competitor tries to damage it. Indonesian businesses get that kind of work by going directly to a leading provider of Backlink Building Services.
If you sell across the region, our Philippines link building page and backlinks for Vietnamese-language sites cover the neighbouring markets. Our backlink building services page sets out the whole category, the company page on fitting strategy to budget explains how we plan spend, and our niche and language link service lists everything else. When you are ready, contact us with your site and the Indonesian searches you want to win.

The questions that come up every time.
Can Malay backlinks help my Indonesian website?
A little, for the domain as a whole, but not much for the Indonesian pages. Indonesian and Malay share a root and a spelling system, yet everyday vocabulary differs: money is uang in Indonesia and wang in Malaysia, and kereta means a train in one country and a car in the other. Readers notice, and search engines see who reads the linking site. We build Indonesian links from Indonesian outlets and Malay links from Malay ones.
Do backlinks still matter for Indonesian SEO?
Yes. They are not the only thing that counts, since content, speed and mobile usability all play a part, but links remain one of the strongest signals that a page deserves to be shown. They also influence which pages AI answer tools cite. Many Indonesian commercial searches have fewer well-linked local pages than English ones, so good Indonesian links can move a page that English links never could.
Should I use a .id or .co.id domain?
If you trade in Indonesia and can meet the registration rules, a .co.id or .id address is a clear local signal to buyers and search engines. Registration generally needs Indonesian identity or company documents. A .com with a well-built Indonesian section, correct hreflang and Indonesian links can also rank well. For links, we judge outlets by their readers rather than their domain ending.
Why does my translated Indonesian site get no traffic?
Usually because nothing in Indonesia points to it. The domain may have English links, but no Indonesian site cites the Indonesian pages, so search engines have no local evidence they matter. Machine translation makes it worse, since readers bounce from text that sounds wrong. Native Indonesian content plus links from Indonesian outlets is what changes that.
Do Instagram and TikTok mentions count as backlinks?
Links in social profiles and posts are generally not followed by search engines, so they do not pass ranking value the way an article link does. They still matter for being discovered and talked about, which often leads to real links later. Influencers who also run blogs or write for portals are where social reach and link value meet.
Who writes the Indonesian articles?
Native Indonesian writers who match the register of each outlet, which can range from formal news Indonesian to the relaxed style of a lifestyle blog. Each article is written to be worth reading without the link. Editors at good Indonesian outlets turn down translated or spun text, and readers ignore it, so we do not offer it.
