Romanian Backlinks for Romania, Moldova and the Diaspora

For businesses selling to Romanian speakers in Bucharest, Cluj, Chișinău or the large Romanian communities across Europe. We earn links from Romanian-language outlets those readers follow, written by native authors, and point each one at the page built for them.

“A Romanian page ranks on links from Romanian sites that Romanians actually read.”

No obligation. Tell us what you sell and where, and a person replies.

  • Diacritics done right. Comma-below ș and ț, not the look-alike cedilla, and anchors that match how Romanians really type.
  • Romania and Moldova planned separately. Two countries, two domains, one language, and readers who notice which side a page was written for.
  • The diaspora included. Romanian-language sites read by communities in Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK.

Romanian readers search in a language with its own letters, two countries and a large population abroad. The best way to build "Romanian backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Romanian-language site" is to contact us directly. A Romanian link plan starts with the engine almost everyone there uses.

Romanian search runs on Google, and Google still runs on links

In Romania and Moldova, Google is where nearly every search starts, and that makes the rules familiar. Links are still one of the main ways Google decides which pages deserve attention. They are not the only way, since your content, your page speed and the way the site is built all count. But without some really good backlinks, a Romanian page will never pop up in search, will not rank, and gets drowned out by the competition that has them.

Nothing about the calendar has changed that. Every year someone announces that links are finished, and every year the pages at the top of Romanian results are the ones other Romanian sites cite. AI search follows the same pattern. Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT search and Perplexity build answers from pages that the web already trusts, and a Romanian page nobody links to is rarely the source they quote.

The comma under ș and ț, and why it reaches your links

Romanian has five letters with diacritics: ă, â, î, ș and ț. The last two are the troublemakers. Correct Romanian puts a comma under the s and the t. For years, keyboards and fonts offered only cedilla versions, ş and ţ, which look almost identical but are different characters. Plenty of Romanian text online still mixes the two.

The mix-up causes real problems. A page title with ţ, a URL with ț and an anchor with a plain t are three spellings to a computer. Add the many Romanians who type with no diacritics at all, writing masina for mașină, and one keyword can appear in four forms across your site and your links.

  • Comma forms everywhere on your site. We check titles, headings and body text for stray cedillas.
  • Slugs without diacritics. Most Romanian sites drop them in URLs, which keeps addresses readable when shared.
  • Anchors that mix both forms. Mostly correct Romanian, with a share in the plain spelling people actually type.

Spelling history adds one more wrinkle. A reform in the early 1990s brought back â inside words, so older or Moldovan-influenced text may still write sînt where standard Romanian writes sunt. Our authors write current standard Romanian unless an outlet's house style says otherwise.

we can audit your Romanian pages for mixed diacritics before new links start pointing at the wrong spelling.

Romania and Moldova: one language, two markets

Romanian is the official language of both Romania and Moldova. The two countries share a language, but each has its own news cycle, currency and institutions. A buyer in Chișinău reads Moldovan news sites and portals, and many Moldovans read Russian as well as Romanian.

Romania's country domain is .ro. Moldova's is .md, which is also popular with doctors and medical businesses worldwide because it reads as an abbreviation for medical doctor. That means a .md link may have nothing to do with Moldova. We check who actually reads an outlet before giving its domain ending any weight.

If you sell in both countries, separate pages with hreflang set to ro-RO and ro-MD let Google show the right one. Each then needs links from its own country: Romanian outlets for Romania, Moldovan outlets for Moldova. A Russian version for Moldovan readers, if you need one, is a separate project with its own Russian-language links.

Next step

tell us whether Moldova is part of your market, and we will tell you whether it needs its own page and its own links.

Romanians abroad search in Romanian too

A large share of Romanians live and work in other European countries, with big communities in Italy, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, among others. Many of them still search, read news and shop in Romanian. For money transfers, travel, legal services, food, shipping home and dozens of other categories, those readers are the market.

They read Romanian-language community sites, diaspora news outlets, community blogs and forums where Romanians abroad share practical advice. Links from those sites, written in Romanian for readers in Rome or Madrid, tell search engines that your Romanian page serves people outside Romania as well. Your site's targeting has to allow it, too: a page locked to Romania will struggle to appear for a Romanian speaker searching from Spain.

What a native Romanian author changes

Romanian editors receive a steady stream of articles that are clearly translated from English. They decline most of them, and readers who get through the first paragraph rarely trust what follows. Native authors write the way the outlet's readers talk: formal dumneavoastră on a business site, a lighter tone on a lifestyle blog, local references, local prices, local examples.

Native writing also fixes a common problem. A business translates its site into Romanian, keeps its English links and waits. No Romanian site mentions the new pages, and the anchors and referring sites all belong to the English-speaking web. To Google, that is a translation nobody in Romania has noticed. Native articles on Romanian outlets change that.

The Romanian outlets we look for

Every Romanian placement by our writers and outlets meets the same rule: no spammy sites and none that are unrelated to your product or service. What we look for:

  • National news sites. Romanian-language outlets read across the country, where expert comment and features earn a link.
  • Regional and city news. Cluj, Iași, Timișoara, Constanța, Brașov and other cities have local sites read by the customers a regional business needs.
  • Hungarian-language press in Transylvania. For businesses serving the Hungarian-speaking communities there, alongside Romanian outlets.
  • Niche blogs. Romanian writers on technology, parenting, food, cars, finance, travel and business.
  • Directories and associations. Romanian business listings and trade bodies that confirm who you are and what you do.

tell us your sector, and we will show you which of these outlet types fit it and which do not.

Starting a Romanian link plan with Get Found

We map who ranks for your Romanian searches and who links to them, settle the diacritics and the targeting, agree topics, and match each to an outlet whose readers care, with a native author writing it. Every article is one a Romanian reader would want even without our link, so the Romanian profile can outlast Google's updates and a competitor's attempts to harm it.

All of this comes from working directly with a leading provider of Backlink Building Services. This page is one of our link building services by language and niche; the Get Found backlink company page explains how we fit a plan to your budget, and the backlink building hub covers everything else. Many Romanians abroad live in Italy and Spain, which is where our Italian backlinks page and Spanish link building come in, and Hungarian backlinks covers Transylvania's other language. When you are ready, contact us with your Romanian site.

The questions that come up every time.

What is the difference between ș and ş, and does it matter?

Standard Romanian writes ș and ț with a comma below the letter. For years many keyboards and fonts only offered look-alike characters with a cedilla, ş and ţ, which belong to other languages. To a reader they look nearly the same. To a computer they are different characters, so a page that mixes them creates two spellings of the same word in URLs, titles and anchors. We standardise on the comma forms and check every article before it goes live.

Do Romanians search with diacritics?

Many do not, especially on phones. A search for a word like mașină is often typed masina. Google usually connects the two, but not always perfectly, so we write your pages with correct diacritics and let a share of the anchors reflect the plain spelling people type. That keeps the profile natural and matches real searches.

Do backlinks still matter for Romanian websites?

Yes. We review content, speed and site structure on Romanian pages as well, but Romanian links still go a long way in deciding whether a page gets shown at all, in Google and in AI answers. In many Romanian sectors a few strong Romanian links are enough to separate a page from competitors whose links all come from English sites.

Should I treat Moldova as a separate market?

If you sell there, usually yes. Romanian is the official language of Moldova, but prices, delivery, institutions and news are local, and Russian is also widely read. A page for Moldovan buyers with its own hreflang and links from Moldovan news and portals tends to do better there than a Romania-focused page with no Moldovan references.

Who writes the Romanian articles?

Native Romanian authors who know the outlet and its register, including when to use the formal dumneavoastră and when a blog's readers expect a lighter tone. Machine translation is easy to spot in Romanian, and editors at worthwhile sites turn it down. Every article must be worth reading without the link, which is what keeps it published and counting.
