Korean Backlinks for a Market That Searches on Naver and Google

For businesses that want Korean buyers to find them, in Seoul and Busan or in Los Angeles and Toronto. We plan for both of Korea's search front doors, place articles by native Korean writers on outlets Korean readers trust, and point each link at a Korean page that is ready to rank.

“On Naver and on Google, a Korean page climbs when Korean writers with real audiences point to it.”

  • Naver and Google, planned together. Korea splits its searching between them, and each rewards different work.
  • Hangul written by Korean writers. Natural spacing, particles and Korean English loanwords, not translated keyword lists.
  • Korean outlets with real readers. News, niche blogs, community sites and directories, with sponsored content labelled the way Korean rules expect.

Start here.

South Korea is one of the few countries where Google does not have search to itself. The best way to build "Korean backlinks, but better yet, backlinks for your Korean-language site" is to contact us directly. Korean link plans have to work in a market that splits its searching between a local portal and Google, and that writes in an alphabet built for the purpose.

Korea searches in two places

Naver has been Korea's leading portal for most of the web's history there. People open it for news, shopping, maps, blogs and answers, and many everyday searches start in its search box. Daum, run by Kakao, is a smaller portal with its own audience. Google has grown strongly too, especially for technical, academic and international searches and among younger users, and it powers search on many of the Android phones Koreans carry.

So a Korean plan has to answer two questions. Where do your buyers search for what you sell? And what does each engine reward? A software company's buyers may live on Google. A restaurant, clinic or beauty brand may find most of its customers on Naver.

  • Naver work. Registration in Naver Search Advisor, a sitemap Naver can read, and presence on Naver's own platforms where it suits the business.
  • Google work. Korean pages with clean hreflang, and links from Korean sites that tell Google the pages belong in Korean results.
  • Shared work. Natural Korean content and Korean outlets that both engines and Korean readers respect.

Naver keeps much of the answer inside its own house

A Naver results page looks very different from a list of ten blue links. It is built as a stack of blocks: Naver Blog posts, Naver Cafe community threads, answers from Knowledge iN, shopping listings, news and, further down, web documents from sites outside Naver. For many searches, the outside web gets less room than it does on Google. Naver's blog ranking also weighs the reputation and history of the blog that published a post, as well as the post itself.

So a Naver plan often includes content on those platforms: reviews and articles by Korean bloggers with established Naver blogs, written about your product in their own voice. Kakao's Tistory blogs, popular with writers who want Google traffic, sit on the Google side of the same picture. Links from respected Korean sites still matter on Naver, because they help your own site earn a place in its web results, and they matter on Google in the usual way.

Backlinks still decide who gets looked at

Every year someone announces that links have stopped mattering. They have not, no matter the date. Content, mobile speed and site structure count, and we review them. But without some really good backlinks a Korean site will never pop up in search, will not rank and will be drowned out by the competition. Links are not the only factor. They are still a major indicator that a website should even be looked at, by Google, by Naver's web results and by the AI search tools, from Google's AI Overviews to the AI answers Korean portals are adding, that summarise a handful of trusted sources.

Those tools tend to pick Korean pages that Korean news, blogs and community sites already reference, and they rarely pick a page with no Korean citations.

Hangul, spacing and the words Koreans actually use

Korean is written in Hangul, an alphabet whose letters group into syllable blocks, with spaces between words. Two details make Korean keyword work harder than it looks.

Spaces that searchers skip

Formal Korean spacing rules are strict, and even native writers argue about them. Searchers often ignore them: 서울 맛집 and 서울맛집, both asking for good restaurants in Seoul, are typed by different people for the same thing. Particles attach to the end of nouns, so a product name changes shape inside a sentence. Native Korean writers place anchors around natural phrases, with particles where they belong, which is what a real Korean citation looks like.

Korean English is not English

Korean has absorbed many English words, often with new meanings. A laptop is 노트북, from notebook; a mobile phone is often 핸드폰, from hand phone. A translator working from an English keyword list will choose the dictionary word; a Korean buyer types the everyday one. Brand names may be searched in Latin letters or in Hangul, so we agree one spelling of each with you.

Next step

ask us for a Korean keyword check that covers spacing, loanwords and Hangul spellings of your brand.

.kr, .co.kr and the Hangul .한국

South Korea's country domain is .kr, with .co.kr widely used by companies, and a Hangul domain, .한국, also exists. A .kr address tells Korean buyers and search engines that the site is aimed at Korea. A .com works as well when the setup carries the signal instead: Korean pages on their own URLs, hreflang using ko or ko-KR, verification in both Naver Search Advisor and Google Search Console, and links from Korean outlets.

The translated site with English links is the setup we see fail most often. A brand adds Korean pages to a strong English domain, never registers with Naver and points nothing Korean at them. Every referring site is read in English, and so is every anchor. Google sees a translation no Korean publisher has noticed; Naver may not see it at all.

Korean outlets that pass real value

Spammy, low-quality sites that have nothing to do with your business never make our Korean list. We work with Korean press contacts, established bloggers in specific niches, influencers and sites with genuine visitors, the kind whose links search engines still count. Korean readers are also alert to hidden advertising, and Korean rules expect sponsored blog posts and influencer content to say they are sponsored, so we place content that is labelled where it should be.

Outlet type What it brings a Korean site
National and business news sites Authority, reach and expert commentary in Korean
Regional news Relevance in Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju and beyond
Established Korean blogs Topical depth in beauty, food, parenting, finance, technology and travel
Community and Q&A sites Discussion where Korean buyers compare options
Directories and associations Confirmation of your business name and category

How we build Korean links with you

We look at who ranks for your Korean searches on Naver and on Google, agree topics, match each one to an outlet whose readers care and commission a native Korean author who writes in that outlet's register. Built this way, a Korean profile can ride out Google's updates and any attempt by a competitor to sabotage it. Our authors and outlets are open to you directly, because link building is the service Get Found leads with, and no chain of resellers sits in between.

Korean communities abroad, in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and China, get their own outlets when they are part of your market. For neighbouring markets, see our Japanese link building page, our backlinks for Chinese-language sites and our Vietnamese backlinks. The language and niche service, the page on budget and strategy and the Backlink Building Services home page cover everything else. When you are ready, tell us about your Korean site.

The questions that come up every time.

Do I need to rank on Naver or on Google in Korea?

Usually both. Naver has long been Korea's leading portal, and many people start everyday searches there, while Google is strong for technical, academic and international searches and with many younger users. The mix depends on your product and audience. We look at where your buyers search before deciding how much of the plan goes to Naver's own platforms and how much to links that support Google.

Do backlinks matter on Naver?

They matter differently. Naver's results lean heavily on its own blogs, cafes and Q&A, so presence on those platforms is part of a Naver plan. Links from respected Korean sites still help your own site appear in Naver's web results and support it on Google. A Korean profile built only from foreign sites helps with neither.

Should my Korean site use a .kr domain?

If Korea is your main market, a .kr or .co.kr address is a clear local signal and Korean buyers recognise it. A .com with a Korean section works too, provided the hreflang is right, the site is registered with Naver Search Advisor and Google Search Console, and the links come from Korean sites. What counts is that every signal points to Korea.

Why does my translated Korean site get no Korean traffic?

Usually for three reasons together. Naver has not been told the site exists, nothing in Korean links to it, and the copy reads as translated, with formal phrases and loanwords Koreans do not use. Fixing the registration takes a day. Earning Korean links and rewriting the pages in natural Korean is the longer work, and it is the part that moves rankings.

Who writes the Korean articles?

Native Korean writers who read the outlets they write for and know the register each one uses, from polite business Korean to a casual blog voice. Korean readers notice translated text quickly, and good Korean editors refuse it. Every article is written to be worth reading without the link, and sponsored placements are labelled where Korean rules call for it.

Can you reach Korean communities abroad?

Yes. Korean Americans in Los Angeles and the New York area, and Korean communities in Canada, Australia, Japan and China, read Korean-language community news and blogs. Those outlets suit immigration, legal, property, education, food and travel businesses. We plan them as their own audience, with outlets read where those communities live.

Next step

Ask yours. The form reaches the people who would be doing the work.
